Herons find their paradise in Nanhaizi Park

Updated: 2021-04-20

Recently, the groups of herons attracted by the good ecology of the Nanhaizi Park have especially migrated to the Elk Garden in the Park, making the garden their new breeding place.

Spring brings the Nanhaizi Park green trees and lucid blue lake water, with colorful flowers as decoration. As the environment gets better, the number and species of avian visitors continue to increase.

The beautiful scenery and abundant water resources of Nanhaizi Park have attracted birds such as oriental white storks and tadorna ferrugineas.

Herons used to live in the Heron Peak 300 kilometers away, but now they also settle in the Elk Garden.

With a height of one meter and a wingspan of 1.7 meters, herons are known as the "king of the sky".

They look a bit like cranes, and their bodies are mainly grayish. They like to stand still by the water for a long time.

Herons are terrestrial wildlife protected by the state with important ecological, scientific and social value. They are a large waterside bird that inhabits the banks of rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, coasts and other waters as well as some shallow waters.

Now, walking into the Elk Garden, visitors can observe the nesting, courtship, hatching, and brooding of herons; they can also enjoy the graceful posture of the bird taking off, perching on the willow branches, and fighting in the air; they may also catch sight of baby herons crawling for food and flapping their wings in the nest.

The Elk Garden is an ideal spot for getting close to nature and taking pictures.
