The launching ceremony of the biodiversity survey of the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area (BDA) was held in Nanhaizi Park on "International Biodiversity Day", which falls on May 22.

The first regional biodiversity survey in Beijing was officially launched and will last for one year.

At the launching ceremony, the relevant person in charge of the Publicity and Culture Department of the BDA Working Committee introduced the overall work plan for the biodiversity survey in the BDA. Officials, experts and audiences were able to see the two pairs of adult elks stocked by the Beijing Elk Ecological Center upon entering the park.

According to official sources, the BDA is cooperating with the Beijing Biodiversity Conservation and Research Center to launch the biodiversity background survey throughout E-Town, using scientific survey methods that combine field surveys, visits, expert consultation and data retrieval.

Professional survey methods will be employed to target the three key areas of greenbelt, factories, and communities with a focus on nine categories like birds, beasts, plants, insects and fish.

The survey aims to comprehensively obtain biodiversity data within the scope of Beijing E-Town, grasp the spatial and seasonal distribution trends of different species, and propose targeted biodiversity protection plans to improve management and decision-making capabilities.

Beijing's first regional biodiversity survey action will be conducted in rivers, parks, residential areas and even industrial areas in Beijing E-Town under the guidance of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology

Based on the results of this background survey, the BDA will establish the "Beijing E-Town Biodiversity Background Survey Species List", form the "Beijing E-Town Biodiversity Annual Report", publish "Common Animals in Beijing E-Town" and "Plants in Beijing E-Town", and compile the "Beijing E-Town Biodiversity Assessment Report".
