The mission of a lake

Updated: 2022-07-25

Bypassing the S-shaped railing at the entrance of the park and walking through the trail, Tongming Lake is in front of you.

Looking down, you can see reeds on the shore of the lake, lotus leaves and lotus flowers. Floating islands are scattered in the water, with birds passing by from time to time.

This large lake located in the southeast corner of Beijing E-Town not only presents a beautiful landscape and provides leisure places for citizens, but also shoulders the responsibility of ensuring water safety and improving the environment and restoring water ecology.

Tongming Lake is located in the east area of Yizhuang Road, where Tonghui Drainage Canal and Liangshui River meet.

Because of the low-lying terrain, there is a high risk of waterlogging. Considering this, Beijing E-Town set up two waterlogging regulation and storage areas in the east and west, which constitute Tongming Lake.

The closer you approach Tongming Lake, the more you can feel the continuous lowering of the terrain. When it rains heavily, the rainwater can flow into the lake along the slope.

Meanwhile, the sluice gate connecting the Liangshui River will be closed, and then lifted after the flood peak has passed.

Tongming Lake park was built in 2019, using 50,000 cubic meters of silt from dredging work on Tongming Lake.

The renovated Tongming Lake Park has further improved its waterlogging ability.

Permeable pavements, gardens, grass-planting ditches...all of these contribute to the construction of a "sponge city".
