Beijing E-Town ushers in opportunities for building world-class industrial clusters

Recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued development plans for national high-tech industrial development zones over the "14th Five-Year Plan" period (2021-25). 

According to the plan, the number of national high-tech zones will reach 220, realizing most prefecture-level cities in eastern China, and important prefecture-level cities in central and western China, being covered with national high-tech industrial development zones. 

As a national high-tech zones and one of the 21 national self-created zones, Beijing E-Town has become an important carrier for the implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy. The release of the development plan further establishes the direction for its future development.

Aiming at building a world-class industrial cluster, the plan proposes to focus on the development of characteristic leading industries, to strengthen strategic emerging industries, to shape new advantages of the digital economy, and to lay out future industries in a forward-looking manner. 

After years of development, Beijing E-Town has formed the development pattern of its high-tech industries, led by four leading industries based on new generation information technology, new energy vehicles and intelligent connected vehicles, biomedicine and general health, robotics and intelligent manufacturing, as well as emerging industries, covering 32 industrial chains. 

The development plan specifies ways to build technology leaders and world-class enterprises, enhance the core competitiveness of high-tech enterprises, support the development of high-growth enterprises, and cultivate technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises. 

In terms of technological innovation, Beijing E-Town has cooperated with three science cities and promoted the transformation and implementation of more than 600 projects from three science cities. It also has 398 accredited R&D institutions to promote the implementation of a number of major innovations; and utilizes 11 offshore innovation centers as a medium to link international high-end resources. 

In terms of enterprise cultivation, 58 enterprises in Beijing E-Town were featured on the list of the first batch of innovative small and medium-sized enterprises in Beijing.
