White-fronted geese rest in Nanhaizi Park

Recently, the Biodiversity Investigation Team of the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA), when performing daily inspections at the Elk Garden in Nanhaizi Park, discovered two "little guests" from afar--- rare white-fronted geese.

The white-fronted goose is a winter migratory bird in China, and it's also a national second-class protected wild animal that breeds in the Arctic tundra zone.

"These two white-fronted geese are in good shape and are expected to stay here for a few days," said Zhong Zhenyu, a member of the BDA Biodiversity Investigation Team. Zhong added that this species of geese consumes most of its strength during the migration process, so they will choose a place to stay and replenish their energy after flying for some time. Then, they will fly to their next destination.

The ecological environment and abundant food resources of the Elk Garden of Nanhaizi Park will help the geese recuperate, Zhong said.

The white-fronted goose is a medium-sized, heavy-bodied goose, with a small bill, thick legs, and a short neck.

Its upper body is covered with gray-brown feathers, the lower body is white, and there is a white spot between the forehead and the upper mouth.

"As the temperature turns cooler, a large group of migratory birds of geese and ducks will soon arrive," Zhong remarked. "Nanhaizi Park has lots of water and grass and has an excellent ecological environment. It is an ideal migration station for migratory birds. A large number of migratory birds settle here every year."
