Beijing steps up building digital economy benchmark city

Updated: 2022-01-11

The number of industrial internet platforms, the amount of access resources, and the number of national-level intelligent manufacturing system solution providers in Beijing all rank first in the country.

In 2021, Beijing accelerated the construction of its "global digital economy benchmark city" goal, with the size of the digital economy reaching 1.24 trillion yuan ($194.96 billion), accounting for 41.7 percent of the city's GDP.

In Sany Group's assembling factory in Changping district, heavy-duty robots lift oversized parts onto a machine.

"Two years ago, assembling a multi-ton power head for a pile machine had to be done manually. Now a robot equipped with 5G high-definition sensors can do it automatically," said Dong Mingkai, president of Sany Group Industry Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute.

The magic of digital intelligent manufacturing has made a group of manufacturing manufacturers in Beijing shine. The Beiqi Foton Cummins engine factory has digitalized its entire production process, while BOE has achieved the world's largest panel manufacturing capacity through intelligent reconstruction of its production chain.

New Smart Manufacturing 100, a project implemented by Beijing, promotes the deep integration of 5G technology, big data, artificial intelligence and manufacturing.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, 10 world-class smart factories and 100 smart factories or digital workshops will be built to promote the intelligent upgrading of thousands of manufacturing enterprises above designated size.

There is a special "supermarket" in No. 11 Dongxingli, Chaoyang district, where the only commodity is data.

The Beijing International Big Data Exchange was officially established on March 31. It sells raw data, as well as finished data products, and features an order processing area that that can meet different consumers' needs.

Autonomous driving is on the rise in Beijing E-Town.

A breakthrough has been made in the world's first network-connected cloud-controlled high-level autonomous driving demonstration area.

"Smart car, smart road, real-time cloud, reliable network, accurate map" refers to the area's five major systems. The area's industry chain was quickly built under the efficient coordination of relevant departments.

According to the project leader, currently, the construction cost per kilometer has dropped from 10 million yuan to less than 1 million yuan, and is expected to be controlled at about 600,000 yuan. This means practical application has become possible.
