Beijing E-Town creates heaven for technological innovation

Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, Beijing E-Town has achieved a 10-fold increase in R&D investment among its large and medium-sized key enterprises. 

From January to August 2022, it is expected to complete an R&D investment of 24.13 billion yuan ($3.35 billion), with its number of national and municipal R&D institutions increasing from 140 to 364.

The number of valid invention patents owned by enterprises has increased seven-fold, from 1,640 in 2012 to 11,480 in 2021.

As of the end of 2021, the number of invention patents owned by 10,000 people amounted to 675, 3.6 times the level of the city, and taking the lead among economic development zones across the country.

Meanwhile, Beijing E-Town is the world's first high-level autonomous driving demonstration area and the country's first intelligent networked vehicle policy pilot area.

Policy innovation and industrial vitality provide infinite possibilities for Neolix, a startup that develops autonomous delivery vehicles. In May 2021, the company was awarded the first batch of road test qualifications of unmanned delivery cars in China.

Since 2017, Beijing E-Town has undertaken more than 600 projects for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in three science cities, and more than 1,200 new technology and products have been developed here through industry-university-research cooperation.

By the end of the "14th Five-Year Plan" period (2021-2025), there will be more than 100 pilot bases and public technical service platforms in Beijing E-Town, 10 demonstrative science and technology application scenarios will settle here annually, more than 150 scientific and technological achievements will be transformed into projects each year, and over 200 scientific and technological achievements in science cities will be transformed here.

Beijing E-Town will be home to more than 15 national incubators and maker spaces, with the scale of science and technology funds reaching 10 billion yuan.

In Yinghai town of Beijing E-Town, the construction site of Beijing's first international talent community is well underway.

With transport vehicles shuttling back and forth, workers here are stepping up construction. This community will become a key part of the talent supporting services of Beijing E-Town, attracting talents from all over the world.

Data shows that by the end of 2021, the total number of talents in Beijing E-Town had reached 326,300, and the contribution rate of talents was 63.35 percent, exceeding the city's average level.

Up to now, Beijing E-Town has five national technology servers, nine industrial research institutes, 34 operating and characteristic parks, and 59 public technology service platforms. The resource gathering platform and achievement transformation hub provide support for talents to settle and develop.
