New IP policies benefit Beijing E-Town's specialized, sophisticated SMEs

The State Intellectual Property Office and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have jointly issued several measures on intellectual property (IP) to promote the innovative development of specialized and sophisticated SMEs.

These measures propose to help enterprises improve the quality and efficiency of IP creation and to build a patent navigation service mechanism.

It also points out that the green channel for patent and trademark examination should be utilized, allowing such enterprises should obtain IP protection more efficiently.

The Beijing E-Town Sub-center of the Beijing Intellectual Property Protection Center has provided "one-stop" services for companies in the area. 

Since its establishment on Oct 21, the sub-center has provided 2,705 patent pre-examination consultations and 18,516 trademark consultations.

"When applying for a patent, pre-examination is conducted under the guidance of the sub-center, and then the application materials are submitted to the State Intellectual Property Office. The application duration has now been reduced from an average of two years to several months." said Zhao Zengxia, intellectual property director of Neolix. 

As one of the first companies in China to obtain vehicle codes for unmanned delivery vehicles, Neolix has accelerated its commercialization theough technological innovation, and its demand for patent applications has increased significantly. So far, the company has processed over 30 patent pre-examination cases at the Beijing E-Town Intellectual Property Protection Sub-center.

Data from January to August this year shows that enterprises in Beijing E-Town have obtained a total of 7,929 patents, a year-on-year increase of 27.83 percent, of which 2,434 were invention patents, a year-on-year increase of 43.97 percent.
