Updated: 2023-02-21

The teaching complex of the Beijing E-Town School of the High School Affiliated with Renmin University of China, was among the first batch of structures selected to win the Luban Award for Chinese Construction Engineering for 2022-2023.

This is not only the first Luban Award project for basic education schools in Beijing, but also the first project invested and constructed in Beijing E-Town in the past 30 years.

The China Construction Engineering Luban Award was established in 1987. The award is guided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and implemented by the China Construction Industry Association. It is also the highest honor for engineering quality in the construction industry.

The school started construction on June 18, 2019, with a courtyard-style layout.

At the beginning of the design, the school communicated with China Architecture Design & Research Group (CADG) proposing that the overall style should be grand, open, and relaxed.

The Dream Hall for primary school students with its high ceilings and the grand South Gate Square for middle school students provide students with ample space for study and recreation.

CADG designed the school according to the psychological and physiological differences of students at different stages of education and proposed a development concept of "combining courtesy with music".

The secondary school focuses on "courtesy," emphasizing the sense of ritual and order in the external space, from the grand square of the entrance to the Chinese-style garden in the middle, to the solemn Chongde Building, creating a "Chinese academy" in all aspects.

The primary school focuses on "music," which is full of happiness and vitality while learning. "When I went to the music hall to participate in a singing competition, I was surprised. The stage was large, and the lighting was very beautiful," said fifth-grade student Hu Mengke.

"We designed seven or eight different plans just for the layout of the ceiling," according to the head of Tianheng Construction.

The campus also reflects green intelligence everywhere, with lighting roofs, micro-power solar energy, permeable concrete pavement which implant the idea of green and environmental protection into the hearts of students.
