'Two Zones' construction underway in Beijing E-Town

Updated: 2023-03-02

Since September 2020, Beijing E-Town has spared no efforts to promoting the construction of the "Two Zones".

The area has taken the lead in building a full-chain innovation development service system for the biopharmaceutical industry. It includes a "concept verification platform-public technology service platform-prototyping center-pilot test base" to enable innovative enterprises and products to thrive.

Beijing E-Town has 27 certified public technology service platforms, guiding companies like Brio to establish prototyping centers and laying out a number of industrial pilot test bases. One of them, the  Yizhuang Cell Therapy Pilot Test Base, is the first specialized carrier in Beijing for the accurate positioning and development of the cell therapy industry.

As part of the "Two Zones" construction plan, Beijing E-Town's biotechnology and health industry has formed a complete industrial chain covering biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, health industries, and other fields. It has gathered more than 1,700 upstream and downstream enterprises such as Bayer and AstraZeneca. A more open industrial chain pattern of biopharmaceuticals is expected to further expand.

Beijing E-Town released the action plan for accelerating the intelligent manufacturing of new medicines from 2023 to 2025 on Feb 14.

According to this action plan, Beijing E-Town will strive to reach a scale of 200 billion yuan ($28.96 billion) for the biopharmaceutical and health industry by 2025.
