Beijing E-Town's water project selected

Updated: 2023-04-10

Recently, the Civilization Office of the Ministry of Water Resources announced the fourth selected cases of the integration of water engineering and water culture.

After multiple rounds of selection, 20 cases were listed. Among them, the Yizhuang Regulation Pond Hub Project of the Beijing South-to-North Water Diversion Project is one of the cases, and the only one selected in Beijing at this time.

As an important part of the Beijing South-to-North Water Diversion supporting project, the Yizhuang Regulating Reservoir Hub Project (referred to as the Yizhuang Reservoir) is located on the east side of the Nanhaizi Park in Beijing E-Town.

It is managed by the Beijing South-to-North Water Diversion Ring Management Office and is a "large water basin" in the southeast of the capital city.

In recent years, the management office has developed the Yizhuang Reservoir into an environmentally friendly and functionally sound ecological water conservancy project.

It not only plays a good role in water supply and regulation but also fully taps into its ecological value, integrating water conservancy engineering and water conservancy culture.

The Yizhuang Reservoir is divided into two phases.

The first phase is a square shape, and the second phase expansion project is like a ruyi scepter, "embracing" the first phase square pool.

"From the initial planning, design, construction, to the current operation and management, all aspects fully consider and tap into the local historical and cultural elements, enriching the connotation of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project," said staff members of the project.

During the Qingming Festival which was a clear day, the slopes and lush trees of the second-phase project can be seen from afar.

In addition, there are three floating islands in the reservoir, which can improve water quality and provide habitats for birds. Last August, peach blossom jellyfish was discovered here, a strong evidence of the good water quality.

With mountains, water, bridges, and islands, the beautiful scenery of the Yizhuang Reservoir adds a touch of color to the spring in Beijing E-Town.
