Updated: 2023-05-15

The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology has announced two closed test sites for unmanned delivery vehicles.

One of them is the Yizhuang Base of the National Smart Car and Smart Transportation (Beijing-Hebei) Demonstration Zone. It was built and operated by Beijing Innovation Center for Mobility Intelligent (BICMI), and obtained certification this time, providing a closed test site for road operation testing of unmanned delivery vehicles.

"The Yizhuang Base is the first T5-level closed test site specifically built for autonomous driving-related testing and verification in Beijing," said Dong Xiao, general manager of BICMI.

The base covers a total area of 650 mu and can simulate 85 percent of urban traffic scenes in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, 90 percent of highway traffic scenes, and 80 percent of rural traffic scenes. It provides various types of standard compliance and policy compliance testing and verification services.

From providing testing for autonomous vehicles to testing for unmanned delivery vehicles, the service scope of the Yizhuang Base continues to expand.

"Previously, in terms of autonomous vehicle testing, the Yizhuang Base has provided a total of 290,000 kilometers and nearly 10,000 hours of closed test site testing and verification services for more than 40 domestic and foreign autonomous driving companies, universities, and research institutes, supporting 18 companies and 384 autonomous vehicles in obtaining the Beijing Autonomous Vehicle Road Test License," Dong added.

Furthermore, the base has also supported the development and validation of technical standards for unmanned delivery vehicles.

With the implementation of the regulations on road testing and commercial demonstration of unmanned delivery vehicles in Beijing this January, the Yizhuang Base began to promote the certification of closed test sites for unmanned delivery vehicles.

In terms of inspection and testing qualifications, testing services and operational management experience, site infrastructure and elements, the Yizhuang Base meets the technical requirements of closed test sites for unmanned delivery vehicles in Beijing.
