Ultra-high-speed wireless private network pioneered in Beijing E-Town

Updated: 2023-09-19

Robotaxis on the road, intelligent traffic lights changing seamlessly, and simultaneous support for a hundred robots competing in a game of Go... The realization of these scenarios is all supported by an ultra-high-speed wireless private network.

Beijing E-Town is using its independently controllable Enhanced Ultra High Throughput (EUHT) technology to create a dual-intelligence private network with these unique features, providing specialized ultra-high-speed network support for the smart city and intelligent transportation sectors.

As of now, leveraging the construction of the Beijing High-Level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Zone, the dual-intelligence private network has achieved complete coverage of the core area, spanning 60 square kilometers. This means that Beijing's only ultra-high-speed wireless private network has been established in Beijing E-Town.

So, what is the dual-intelligence private network compared to the familiar 4G and 5G public networks?

"It's like having a Wi-Fi network at home. We've used new technology to create a city-level local area network specifically for use in the smart city and intelligent transportation sectors. While citizens can't directly use this new type of dedicated network on their phones, it serves as the digital backbone of the smart city, indirectly facilitating their lives in scenarios like traffic control and smart parking," said Wu Hao, general manager of Beijing Smart City Network Co.

Due to its use of domestically developed, independently controllable, and secure EUHT technology, the dual-intelligence private network has several unique advantages.

In terms of low latency, when autonomous vehicles are on the road, the network continuously transmits massive amounts of data in real time. Only lower latency can enable them to make timely responses like braking and turning after identifying road conditions. With the dual-intelligence private network, an end-to-end average latency of less than 10 milliseconds can be achieved, which means vehicles can complete tasks imperceptibly to passengers.

Moreover, the dual-intelligence private network offers high reliability, large bandwidth, and wide connectivity. Its network switching success rate is greater than 99.999 percent, ensuring more stable and reliable signal connections with seamless base station handovers.

The private network's bandwidth is no less than 200 Mbps and can be adjusted for both uplink and downlink bandwidth according to business needs. A single station can support up to 200 terminal user connections, offering broader connectivity.

Plans are currently underway for the construction of a 100-square-kilometer private network in Daxing and Tongzhou districts, as well as the expansion of an additional 400 square kilometers in the future.
