Beijing E-Town attracts continuous foreign investment with 'magnetic appeal'

Updated: 2024-02-07

The rapid development of Beijing E-Town is inseparable from the continuous source power of foreign enterprises. Up to date, the area has attracted over 1,200 foreign-funded enterprises from 62 countries and regions. From capital expansion to successive entries into the area, foreign-funded enterprises have cast numerous "votes of trust" for E-Town.

Since being awarded the national-level Green Factory status by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2021, Mondelēz International has recently gained international recognition and was selected as one of the new "Lighthouse Factories," making it the first "Lighthouse Factory" in E-Town.

Recently, Beijing has released the fourth batch of the list of foreign-funded research and development centers, with E-Town adding 14 newly recognized enterprises, bringing the total to 27. Among them are four foreign-funded R&D headquarters. Currently, there are a total of 107 recognized foreign-funded R&D centers in the city, with E-Town accounting for over a quarter of them.

Aniket Gupta, chief engineer of Cummins Emission Solution (China) Co, which has newly obtained recognition as a foreign-funded R&D center, stated that in the future they will leverage China's high-quality talent pool, strengthen cooperation with universities and research institutes, and continuously explore new clean emission and zero-carbon technologies.

While foreign-funded enterprises are continuously gaining new recognition, foreign-funded projects are also making constant progress. Recently, the main body of the Toyota SinoHytec Fuel Cell research and production project (Phase I) has been completed, with acceptance inspection expected to be conducted around the Chinese New Year.

"Beijing E-Town is a city full of vitality and wisdom, with tremendous potential for future development," said François Darchis, CEO of Air Liquide Group.

On Jan 16, E-Town once again joined hands with Air Liquide Group, signing a memorandum of cooperation and officially launching the construction of a bulk gas station project for supporting the production line of the sixth-generation new type of semiconductor display devices at BOE Technology Group.

So far, 102 Fortune Global 500 companies have invested in 157 projects in Beijing E-Town.
