One E-Town enterprise among only four winners in China

Updated: 2024-06-06

Recently, the World Intellectual Property Organization released its list of the top 25 Global Awards.

Four Chinese companies made the list, including Beijing Zhiyu Medical Technology Co from Beijing E-Town.

The WIPO Global Awards celebrates exceptional enterprises making smart use of intellectual property for commercialization products and services while also bringing a positive contribution to society through their innovation and creativity.

The awards specifically acknowledge outstanding achievements by small and medium-sized enterprises in transforming intellectual property assets, promoting business development through intellectual property and providing commercial solutions that contribute to sustainable development goals.

Established just three years ago, Zhiyu Medical successfully launched its first product, the metaFlow® high-energy water jet autonomous surgical robot (water jet surgical robot).

This surgical robot uses intraoperative imaging navigation, allowing the robot to autonomously control instruments with precise movements. It can accelerate saline to the speed of sound, giving it a unique effect on soft tissue removal.

This innovation not only significantly reduces the time required for surgical removal but also avoids thermal damage to surrounding nerves and soft tissues during cutting, effectively redefining the treatment paradigm for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).

Zhao Jing, COO of Zhiyu Medical, said that over the next decade, 94 million BPH patients worldwide will require surgical treatment, including 25 million patients in China.

Currently, China performs only 500,000 surgeries annually, indicating there is a huge unmet market demand. Zhiyu Medical's water jet surgical robot is in a leading position to meet this demand, which is one of the key criteria for the WIPO Global Awards.

According to sources, Zhiyu Medical's water jet surgical robot has entered registration clinical trials and has been approved for the "green channel" in medical device approval, further accelerating its marketization process.
